Freshly collected Red Stem Malabar Spinach. This a hot weather vining type of spinach. It is as valuable as an ornamental plant as much as an edible delight.
Leaves are extremely abundant! Not on overly aggressive or invasive vine though. I have literally stood in my garden and picked these leaves for 30 minutes straight and you couldn't tell that I took any! You don't need many plants to make an abundance of leaves.
This vine gives a nice surprise of beautiful pink berries that turn black about mid Summer. These are the seeds and can be collected and used for food coloring or natural dye.
The taste is similar to swiss chard. This spinach is best used in soups, stir fries, and baked goods.
