Public Discussion on “Electoral Reform Truly”


On May 5, 2015, at 12.00 at the Discussion Club “Expert Opinion” there will be a round table on “Election reform for real?”, Held by a group of non-governmental organizations within the Opora Civic Network, the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Research and Internet. During the event, experts present the concept of the new version of the Law “On Elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine” and local elections, as well as together with People’s Deputies, deputies of local councils, representatives of political parties and public organizations will discuss current legislative innovations for preparation and holding of elections in accordance with international democratic standards.

As you know, the coalition agreement of the majority in the Verkhovna Rada stipulates that in the first quarter of 2015, a proportional electoral system with open lists will be introduced for the election of the Ukrainian Parliament, as well as a significant change tours on the principle of the vast majority). At the same time, there were no significant steps in the first 100 days of the new Parliament. That is why experts present the concepts of the new version of the Law “On Elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine” and the Law “On Elections of Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and village, settlement, city mayors”, based on international democratic standards and practices.

Olga Aivazovskaya, coordinator of the election and parliamentary programs of the OPORA Civic Network;
Denis Kovryzhenko, Legal Council of the International Foundation of Election Systems (IFES);
– People’s Deputies, deputies of local councils of Chernihiv region, regional experts, representatives of political parties and public organizations.
