April 24 this year. The Government Office for European Integration, together with the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum at the National Information Agency of Ukraine “Ukrinform” conducted a public discussion devoted to updating the content of the European neighborhood policy. During the event, its participants exchanged views on the future policy of the Eastern Partnership, the expectations of its renewal and the best use of its instruments to fulfill the Association Agreement with the European Union, and noted the initiation of a new practice of interaction between civil society and power in the preparation of strategic political initiatives.

This event was a public result of consultation on updating the content of the neighborhood policy prepared by the Government Office on European Integration together with Ukrainian non -governmental experts and executive bodies, which were published on April 6. on the Government Portal (www.kmu.gov.ua).

The event itself became a communication platform for representatives of the authorities and public experts, which noted in his speech Gennady Maxak, President of the Polissya Fund of International and Regional Studies. The expert also suggested to distinguish Partnership policy that would be clearer for their purposes and mechanisms with the existing neighborhood policy.

In his turn, the First Deputy Director of the Government Office Mykola Kuzio stressed that one of the areas of the updated European neighborhood policy should be effective support from the EU and its Member States to the Ukrainian side in the implementation of the Association Agreement, the development of transport connections and the strengthening of mobility between our country and the European Union.

According to Oleksandr Sushko (former national platform coordinator), “in addition to the fact that very good proposals have been made, it is also worth noting the format of creating this document that took place in close cooperation between public and government structures. This example hopes that this format will become familiar to Ukraine. “

At the beginning of March 2015, the European Commission announced joint consultations on the revision of the European neighborhood policy, publishing the advisory document of the European Commission “To the New European Neighborhood Policy”. In the context of revision, the European Commission expects visions, including partner countries regarding the future of this policy.
