The influence of the public sector depends on the professionalism and solidarity of civil society institutions

On December 23, the round table and the topic of “Problems of Democracy Democracy in Ukraine” was conducted at the Chernihiv Trade Union Center of the Polissya Foundation for International and Regional Studies. The event was held within the framework of the national campaign for the preparation of the Civic Assembly forum of Ukraine “Crisis of Democracy in Ukraine. Positions of civil society ”, which is planned in February 2012.

During the Round Table, Chernihiv experts outlined pressing problems and expressed their vision of mechanisms and actions that would allow the institutions of civil society to be effectively involved in the development of Ukraine. In particular, public activists discussed the problems of ensuring the political, economic, social rights of Ukrainians; regional dimension of reforms and ensuring honest, free and effective elections.

The participants emphasized the need to overcome citizens’ passivity in defending their rights. Yes, Igor Andriychenko, the chairman of the Choo IMGO “Democratic Alliance”, noted that local authorities are not set up for a constructive dialogue with representatives of public organizations, and the public is passive in defending their rights. Sergey Solomakha, a representative of the Chernihiv City Union “Sivertyan”, expressed the idea of activating the territorial communities of the region through focusing on solving local problems and widespread introduction of local public discussions.

An important factor that is able to provide the implementation of the recommendations made by the public, the participants of the “round table” called the increase in the professional level of representatives of non -governmental organizations. Pavel Pushchenko, Head of the Chernihiv Educational Center “Initiative” noted: “The absence of profile public organizations – strong, effective, professional – crosses any real influence at the regional level on reform. Now there is a reform of medical, land, pension, judicial spheres.”

In discussing the issue of honest election race, thoughts were heard about the need for control by the public on the formation and work of district and district commissions, comprehensive coverage of their work. According to Sergiy Solomakha, the public should go to the commission and that is where his civic position is manifested.

Expert proposals were submitted to the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of the Civic Assembly forum of Ukraine for the formation of the agenda.
