Young analysts will watch the 2012 elections in the Chernihiv region

The Polissya Fund of International and Regional Studies organized the press conference. The event was supported by National Endowment for Democracy.
During the event, the Vice President of the Polissya Fund of International and Regional Studies Yuriy Vdovenko presented a new project “Promoving Youth in Election Observation”. He noted that this project aims to develop local democratic initiatives by attracting activists of the youth public movement of Chernihiv region in the process of analysis of the 2012 election campaign to increase its transparency.
Project manager Maxim Koryavets spoke about the main designations.
In particular, he reported that the project will be implemented from February 1 to December 31, 2012 in three stages.
The first stage – the preparatory – will be aimed at developing the parameters of the selection of future participants in training for the election process monitoring.
The second stage – educational – will provide for the training of future political analysts. It is planned that by the end of April, the selection of 25 young activists from each district of Chernihiv region will be completed. The selected participants will take part in a series of three -day trainings devoted to the study of topics that will help them effectively monitor the election process in the future. In particular, participants will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with the basics of analytical activity, the main techniques of writing analytical documents, to gain knowledge in the field of election process monitoring and political analysis.
The third stage-information-analytical-the most important stage. During this stage, young political analysts will be able to use knowledge in practice, taking part in the process of monitoring the election process in the Chernihiv region.
Intermediate monitoring results will be promptly placed on a specially created site “Polissya Week”, as well as publish in the electronic newsletter “Polissya Week: Chernihiv region through the prism of preparation for the 2012 election campaign”. During August – October 2012, it is planned to publish 6 issues of this ballot.
The monitoring results will be included in the print report “Parliamentary Elections 2012 with the eyes of young people: view from Chernihiv”, which will be published after the date of the election. And young political analysts will also be able to develop their public speaking skills during the final press conference.
The purpose of the project “Promoting Youth in Election Observation”, which is carried out by the Polissya Fund of International and Regional Studies with the support of National Endowment for Democracy, is to develop local democratic initiatives by attracting activists of the Chernihiv Youth Public Movement in the 2012 election campaign.
