Ukrainian prism: cooperation of Ukraine with international organizations

The cooperation of Ukraine with international organizations deserves special attention to both the developers of Ukraine’s foreign policy and researchers. Therefore, it is natural that this topic became the next direction of the Ukrainian Prism project, aimed at optimizing Ukraine’s foreign policy instruments.

According to the Unified State Register of International Organizations, as of January 1, 2014, Ukraine has acquired membership in 75 institutions of international importance. Organizations are different: from global to regional, from general political to profile with specific functions.

Is Ukraine needed in so many organizations, considering that the contributions annually reach tens of thousands of US dollars in total? Does Ukraine use the possibilities that opens membership in certain international institutions in terms of efficiency and effectiveness? Does our country come from the standpoint of our own national interests, participating in the formation of the agenda of international organizations? What organizations can become a locomotive when leaving a difficult economic crisis in which Ukraine is?

These and other questions have tried to answer the project experts who have identified a number of international organizations, the relations of Ukraine with which they still have unfulfilled potential in financial and economic dimensions. It is the World Bank, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the European Bank of Econstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank, the Energy Community, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Customs Union, the GUAM, the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Economic Cooperation.

Despite the fact that these international organizations differ sufficiently in their goals and principles of activity, both specific and common problematic and sensitive places were marked in cooperation with most of them.

It can be noted that in the construction of relations with the majority of these organizations there is no clear conceptual basis that would translate the activity to a strategic level, clearly based on the national interests of Ukraine. The opacity in making decisions, as well as in the construction of the information and communication direction is also brought to the fore. And, of course, the lack of political will in the activation of in -depth areas of cooperation.

This publication also provides clear recommendations, which according to experts, should improve the level of cooperation with international organizations. The tips are aimed at the non -existent performers of the foreign policy course of our country. Thus, the Ukrainian prism project has traditionally been involved in increasing public participation in the decision -making process in the field of foreign policy.
